Dragon Cave is a very intuitive game and the tasks are very easy to complete. This is just a step-by-step dash just to make things a little more clear.
You'll need the ACTIONS page. You can go to it by clicking on the dragon you want to breed and click on "Actions" at the top left, or click on "Actions" right in front of your dragon.
Once you open the action tab, select BREED.
A list of all dragons AVAILABLE to breed will appear.
Scroll down and choose a mate, then click on BREED.
You see? Breeding is a piece of cake! The problem is the RESULT of breeding!
After the breed action there are 6 options:
[li]They breed, but no egg is produced.
- In this case you can breed the same couple again after 7 days.[/li]
[li]The two dragons show no interest in each other (and no egg is produced).
- In this case you can breed the couple again after 7 days.[/li]
[li]The two dragons REFUSE each other. This means the pair is incompatible.
[/li]
Pertinent info: REJECTION
Once two dragons REFUSE each other, they will never breed again. The refused mate will be listed at the bottom of the breeding page with the message “Reject” in front of it.

Pertinent info: ABANDONING / TRADING / TRANSFERRING
Once you the egg is off your scroll it’s gone, no matter the reason.
You cannot pick from the Abandoned Page an egg you’ve already abandoned unless another player tosses it back to the abandoned page.
The only alternative to take the egg back is asking for it on forums and be lucky enough to regain the lost one, but even if you know the person that has the lost egg, they have no obligation to give it or trading it back. Of course, it is considered an act of kindness to give it back, but this is entirely up to the catcher.
There's no guarantee to breed multiple eggs (also known as a multi-clutch), but it's more likely to happen during the "Cave Holidays", which currently include:
During Valentines and Christmas the sharing spirit is more important, so the breeds are limited to two per scroll while during the Halloween you can get all the breeds you can get.
Once multiple babies are produced, there's no way to keep all of them directly from the breeding action, even if you have enough slots on your scroll. A message from the cave will ask you to choose one of them by clicking on the egg. The rest will go to the Abandoned Page.
Tip: If you want to transfer / trade a Holiday: select the egg you want to keep and add it to a trade link so you'll have 24 hours to trade it even if you already have 2 dragons of that type on your scroll.
The Breeding Action
You'll need the ACTIONS page. You can go to it by clicking on the dragon you want to breed and click on "Actions" at the top left, or click on "Actions" right in front of your dragon.
Once you open the action tab, select BREED.
A list of all dragons AVAILABLE to breed will appear.
- Tip: The dragons that had a successful breeding in the past will be listed first. All the others will be grouped the same way as your scroll.
- Pay attention if the intended mate hasn't bred recently. If it did, the dragon will not show on the list.
Scroll down and choose a mate, then click on BREED.

Breeding Results
After the breed action there are 6 options:
- They breed an egg that is usually the same breed as one of the parents.
- Exceptions (till now): Ultraviolets, Shallow Waters, Two-Finned Blunas, Soulpeace, Geode
[li]They breed, but no egg is produced.

Q: My breeding failed. Will that pair ever breed?
A: The only breeding message that means the pair is incompatible is the message of "the dragons refuse to go near each other". The rest of the messages are simply a failure for that attempt. If dragons refuse each other, they will show up grayed out at the bottom of each other's breeding lists so that you don't accidentally try to breed them again.

- Exception: during the dragon's holiday period, refusals for the holiday are turned off.
Q: My holiday produced no eggs! Is this a glitch?
A: Unfortunately not. While refusals for the holiday are turned off, there is no guarantee that eggs will be produced. If they are produced, they may give up to four eggs. If you breed two holidays of the same season together, their eggs can be a mix of both holiday dragons. Some dragons (Halloween only, usually pumpkin dragons) have even been known to, albeit rarely, only produce eggs of the non-holiday partner.

- They breed, produce an egg, but you have no egg slot available to keep it on your scroll. So the egg is automatically abandoned and goes to the Abandoned Page.

- Your breeding produces MULTIPLE eggs.
There's no guarantee to breed multiple eggs (also known as a multi-clutch), but it's more likely to happen during the "Cave Holidays", which currently include:
Holiday | When? | Egg limit (per species) |
Valentines | February 14 | 2 |
Halloween | October 31 | All you can grab! |
Christmas | December 25 | 2 |
During Valentines and Christmas the sharing spirit is more important, so the breeds are limited to two per scroll while during the Halloween you can get all the breeds you can get.

Q: My dragons bred and produced multiple eggs, but I didn't select one. What will happen?
A: If you don't select which egg to keep within an hour (half an hour if you have already hit the limit you are allowed of that holiday dragon), all the eggs will be automatically abandoned. If you close the selection page without choosing an egg, all of the eggs will appear on your account page as "held eggs." You can choose one to keep by going to actions and selecting "Keep". If you don't want any of the eggs you'll save time by simply choosing one, then abandoning it.
